I remember the summer of 2018, when everyday before going to school I would pick up the newspaper after my father was done with it and idly flip through the pages until i hit the sports section in the end. those months though, there was one name I saw many times on the front page itself - about his exploits, his antics, and his sheer brilliance. one day, I decided to see what this man's deal was. that was the day i got into football, thanks to antoine griezmann.

i progressed from reading about his plays and games to watching the quarterfinals onwards on tv. i would wake up at absurd hours to watch these and go to school with no sleep. it was absolutely worth it. watching him play was a true delight. the energy he had, the spirit he brought to his team, the little dance he would do after a goal, the way he never faltered under pressure - he singlehandedly showed me why football is revered by so many.

when he lead his team to win the world cup that year - he truly seemed invincible to me. when i saw his decision to retire today, that was the first thing i thought of - that world cup that opened the world of football to me, the door griezmann held open, when i thought i'd watch him play, watch him win, for the rest of my life.

but that's the funny thing about this sport - you can dream for a forever, but the moment you've played your part, given your share, you step aside for the next person with a dream. very few get the timing right, but i trust he did.

Javert is NOT a rich white cop, he's a poor Romani man born inside a jail. When I first joined the Les Mis fandom about a decade ago I remember there were a lot of people who made Javert a rich white policeman. Which, hey, I do kinda get it, especially when you're contrasting Javert to characters like Valjean or Les Amis. I totally get why people would want that story to exist within Les Mis fanworks. But also, that is not Javert whatsoever. He's canonically half Romani, born in a prison.

Javert being a class traitor actually means so much more to the story than Javert being some random privileged asshole pig.

Sometimes, I think about how much Alhaitham's entire adult life has been shaped by Kaveh and I just... have to sit down for a second.

Kaveh was Alhaitham's first, and, as far as we've been told, only friend until recently. At the very least, Kaveh was likely his only close friend throughout Alhaitham's entire schooling years, from teens into adulthood.

Alhaitham lives in the house he received for his work with Kaveh. The house Alhaitham lives in wouldn't even exist without Kaveh.

Alhaitham's ideology and behavior have been shaped by his diametric opposition to Kaveh's perspectives. He acts and thinks the way he does in part because of how their debating over years shaped how Alhaitham sees the world.

He's become an active part of a friend group almost entirely because of Kaveh. Alhaitham's story quest says that he didn't become particularly friendly with the rest of Sumeru's saviors even after they saved the archon, but now we see him hanging out with Cyno and Tighnari all the time because Kaveh was friends with them first and eased the way.

He even drinks a particular brand of coffee because he and Kaveh picked it together.

If you removed all trace of Kaveh from Alhaitham's life, virtually nothing would be the same. He wouldn't live where he does now. His house wouldn't look like it does inside at all. He very likely wouldn't have a single close friend. His ideology would probably be significantly more pragmatic and cold. Literally the only thing in Alhaitham's current life that hasn't been shaped in some way by Kaveh is Alhaitham's job. Which is... probably why work is Alhaitham's least favorite aspect of life.

Meanwhile, Kaveh is honest to archons over here wondering "What does Alhaitham even think about me?"

can we talk about how feng xin and mu qing ascended at 25+ but xie lian did at 17. can we talk about how when they next saw each other 800 years later after their fallout feng xin and mu qing looked older, more mature, more grown up than xie lian remembered but when they looked at him he still looked exactly as they remembered. he still looked so young compared to them. they had changed so much. he hadn't. can we talk about that.
